Resumo
In its 3rd edition, Cartographies of Violence in the Amazon presents a worrying scenario of conflicts over the control, use or possession of land that have produced homicides and other criminal dynamics, as well as irreparable damage to Amazonian biodiversity, damaging the maintenance of the forest and the survival of indigenous peoples, quilombolas and riverside communities. These conflicts can be produced by the logic of land exploitation and use, such as deforestation and land grabbing for the advancement of monoculture, agriculture and livestock, illegal mining, or by armed territorial control exercised by criminal factions for the retail and/or transportation of drugs and other goods.
In any case, this third edition of Cartographies of Violence in the Amazon makes it clear that, above all through control over the use of land and territories, criminal organizations already dominate strategic sectors of the region's critical infrastructure, understood as the set of systems, facilities and assets that are essential to the functioning of society and the economy.
